Skyrink.  January 26, 2008.  I think we played excellent hockey last night vs the Blizzards, the first placed team, and I know it’s a hard pill to swallow but you all should look at the positive side of the game. We skated around those guys all night! We scored the first goal on a power play and kept them off the score board for 42 minutes.  We talked on the bench and we passed on information about the other goalie and knew where to shot on him.  Let’s put it aside and concentrate on our next game, next Saturday vs the Wizards at 11:30, (East Rink, Dark Jerseys).

Skyrink.  January 19, 2007.  Great effort Saturday night! The entire team hustled and had a lot of energy the whole game. We were always the first to the puck. Our on-ice communication made a real difference in our teamwork, passing and creating scoring chances. We need to communicate like that every game. That was a lot of fun.

Our next game is Saturday at 10:00pm vs. the Blizzard, who were beaten by the Moose this past weekend and are vulnerable if we stick to our game. Please email Dan privately if you cannot make the game.

Skyrink.  January 12, 2008.   Another for the WIN column.  That column doesn’t represent the true perseverance that the team has been playing recently.  This game was won with persistence, perseverance and wanting to get to the puck first.  Keeping your feet moving and your head on a swivel.  We won most faceoffs, most battles in the corner and we just plain wanted it more!

Skyrink.  December 29, 2007.   With the Dogs having a fill-in goalie, his 3rd time in net no less, they fought hard against another substitute goalie on the other end, pummeling him with over 40 shots in the game.   The only goal by the Dogs was an unimpressive breakaway by Matt Hall who put it in no problem.   Unimpressive because he was still standing after the goal.For the most part, the Dogs played very well against a tired team as the 6 defensive players did everything they could to keep the Moose from even taking a shot on our substitute goalie’s 3rd game ever.   A very impressive game where we dominated most of the game and where in this case, the results do not indicate the true play and grit that we all showed last Saturday, at the Skyrink.

Skyrink.  December 22, 2007.  The Dogs played a challenging game last week vs HH and Christine was just awesome in net.  Christine went to the hospital after the game to get checked up.   Actually, she played for another team after us and then went to the hospital. She’s tough! Their no 37 scored 3 goals and we’ll know and watch him better next time.

Skyrink.  December 8, 2007.  The Sled Dogs defeated the 1st placed undefeated Blizzards 7-2!  In the biggest upset of the season, the 5th placed Sled Dogs defeated the Blizzards in an amazing display of hockey last Saturday at the Skyrink.  Steve, still nursing the newly born twins, was reached on the phone after the game with the news and said “I knew the team was going to kick their a****)”

When John scored the first goal early in the 1st period, everyone on the bench jumped up!  You could feel the sense of relief at putting in the first goal.  A degree of confidence just kept building after each goal with everyone keeping their focus on the game and never letting up.  Being aware that the Blizzard like to draw penalties when in trouble, the Dogs had been prepped not to retaliate and they didn’t. 

Denis Belmont was in the stands, itching to jump in the game.  Recoved from shoulder surgery over the summer, Denis said:  “You guys looked great out there.  Everyone in the audience was shocked at the defeat.  Not me, I knew you guys were going to beat them and that’s why I came down to cheer you guys on.” 

Skyrink.  December 1, 2007.   In an unusual game where Christine was playing for the Hornets, Steve was at the hospital for the birth of the twins and Doug was making his first appearance this season as an alternate, the Sled Dogs sweeped the Hornets 11-3 for their second win of the season.   Anthony, with his admirable smirk on his face, was overheard saying: “We’ll take it!” Christine had no defensive help on the other side.  The Sled Dogs took advantage and and just put one in after an other.  We look forward to having Christine back with us next week vs the Blizzards.  Thanks to Dave for filling in.  Until 96 showed up, he had nothing to do really except look big in the net.

It was fun having Doug back for a game.  Everyone had a good time and was able to work on their skills and confidence level with carrying the puck, making passes, getting beat (me).

Congrats again to Steve and Lisa for the twins!  Anyone want to bet when Steve will return to playing with us???

Skyrink – November 10, 2007. Reduced to only 4 defensive players, we fought a battle on the scoreboard and in the end lost 9-5.   The line changes seemed to have worked as we increased our scoring, our main goal for the evening.  Steve and Jen looked comfortable as centers and Ben played well up on the wing.   Next game is December 1st.

Skyrink – November 3, 2007.   The Sled Dogs fought a hard battle against the chippy HH.  Ex-captain Steve “golden gloves” Chamberlin who took a 5 minute major was quoted after the game “Christine was getting slashed like crazy all night.  I just threw down my gloves and wanted to take on the whole HH team and defend my goalie!”

Steve added that he’s been training with Tyler recently and said that he felt ready to step in his shoes.  Tyler, who was suspended for fighting a couple of games ago was reached by phone said that he wished that he could have been there and looks forward to his return this Saturday. 

New player Jeremy Friesen showed up at the beginning of the second period ready to help out the team.  Jack Whalen, in rare form, scored the lone goal.  A late 6-4 advantage registered many shots on goal but the Dogs could not put the biscuit in the net.

Skyrink – October 27, 2007.  The Sled Dogs fought hard last Saturday with a thin line-up with a lot of heart.  We tried but could not always control the Wizards’ no. 33 player who scored a couple of goals.  Heal those wounds and get ready for a little fun with Hockey Hegemony this Saturday.
