Recap by Steve:
SKYRINK, October 6, 2007. I’d say it was a solid all-around effort. Goals were scored by Evan, Howard, John V and Jack, so it was pretty balanced (Evan and John both received amazing passes for 1-timers from Jack).
The Tsunami team wasn’t simply a bunch of thrown-together D8 leftovers. They were strong, probably the strongest Tsunami team we’ve played. No Justin, but more balanced with stronger supporting players.
We were in their 1/2 of the ice probably 60% of the time.
Their goalie was astounding. Some young kid who was really good. We had to have outshot them by a 3:1 ratio. Very few rebounds. I was in front of him for 4 shots that I can remember and was left waiting and got no rebound.
We were down 3-2 with 3:24 on the clock and didn’t give up. The team kept fighting and that was great to see and be a part of! I’m old and out of shape!
In particular, if I had to give game pucks, I’d offer them to Howard and Evan. I was on their line and their constant hard work and great positioning paid off in two goals.
I’d like to see us get a player or two positioned in front of the opposing net quicker. There were a couple of rebounds that noone was there to get.
The new d-zone faceoff positioning worked well I thought. I like it alot. What is particularly good is when our centers communicate the plan for the puck drop. Howard did this and it allowed Evan and I to get that extra step. If I weren’t so damn out of shape I could have gotten to a couple of great faceoff wins because I knew where H was going with it. Hall also commented that he got to a puck on his line this way.
