D8 Dogs Trampled By Moose, 4-2

SKYRINK, August 26, 2006 – The Sled Dogs fought a hard battle but fell short despite back-to-back goals from left winger John Kapp and Center Gordon Feinberg that tied the game in the second period.

Finding themselves trailing 2-0 after one period, the Dogs changed their strategy to dump and chase. Traffic in front of the Moose net and good hard work created both Sled Dog goals, separated by only a few minutes. The Dogs’ bench roared after each goal and howls echoed throughout the building as it seemed the momentum had turned. The game remained tied as the buzzer sounded to end the second period. But a third Sled Dog goal waved off by the official in the third period and two more Moose tallies quelled the Dogs’ resurgence as the Moose skated to a 4-2 win.

But all was not lost as the Dogs scurried off to the locker rooms to exchange white for dark jerseys. No, not for another battle on the ice. This was team picture day. The loss all but forgotten for the moment, the Dogs gathered at center ice, arms around shoulders and smiles on faces as the camera clicked away.

Sure it was a tough season and with a battle against the Blizzard scheduled for September 9th, the Dogs will definitely be challenged in the season finale. Yet the standings don’t show the whole story. Sticking it out with every team, fighting through a myriad of injuries and scraping and scratching with everything they had for every goal, this brand-new team grew from a litter of untrained timid puppies into a seasoned pack of ferocious Dogs. With Fall right around the corner, the bite of the cold air will usher in a fresh new season for the Dogs, and as Captain Alicia Walker affirms, “We’ll be ready.”
