Bad Blood Remains Between Bitter Rivals
SKYRINK, August 5, 2006 – In a game reminiscent of their previous battle, the Sled Dogs dominated the first period against BNP Paribas tonight and when Dan Dorval scored a short handed goal early in the second period the Dogs had a 2-1 lead and the game’s momentum.
That momentum proved to be short-lived, however, as BNP quickly answered Dorval’s goal and continued to pour it on from there. The Sled Dogs failed to score for the remainder of the game as the sleazy bankers reeled off 8 straight goals to claim the victory.
Mixed in with BNP’s streaky offensive attack, though, was a streak of viciousness not usually seen in recreational hockey. The third period was marred by rough play by both teams, but always instigated by BNP. In one particularly vicious attack, Jose Rosa, one of the dirtier players on BNP, began to throw his considerable weight around on unsuspecting Sled Dogs.
Eventually Sled Dog defenseman Sandro Pardo stood up for his teammates and took on the big goon, sending both men to the showers. “Those bankers have greed coarsing through their veins,” said Pardo. “Apparently, simply winning the game isn’t good enough.”
Notes – Center Jack Whalen tallied the Sled Dogs first goal…Rosa was suspended from league play for two games for his actions…The Sled Dogs next game is August 12 at 11:30pm vs. Wizards.
