D7 Dogs Engulfed By Tsunami 6-5

Nowhere To Hide From Late Wave

SKYRINK, July 29, 2006 – Coming into tonight’s game against Tsunami, the Sled Dogs were feeling good about their place in the hierarchy of D7 and confident in their ability to make a statement against arch-rival Tsunami. On this night, however, nothing seemed to go as planned for the water-logged Dogs.

The game itself was a competitive affair, showcasing offensive skill, strong defensive play, and solid goaltending from each team – but none of it occurred consistently enough for either squad to gain an advantage in score or in puck control. Center Jack Whalen got the Sled Dogs off to a good start with an early goal that gave the Dogs a 1-0 lead and set the first period tone.

Tsunami answered quickly, however, with two unanswered goals taking a firm grasp on the game’s momentum and from then on the game was a back and forth struggle, not much different from the ebb and flow of the ocean tides. Each Tsunami goal, and subsequent one goal lead, was matched by a game-tying Sled Dogs Goal. Center Dan Dorval notched his third goal of the season and line mate Doug Gorenstein had a hat trick as the Sled Dogs top line continued its productivity.

Calm seas prevailed until late in the third period as the game was tied 5-5 and it appeared overtime was imminent. That’s when the unpredictable oceanic energy gained strength and erupted in an unexpected tidal wave with less than two minutes to play that resulted in the puck getting washed in over the goal line sending the dejected Dogs home wondering what might have been.

The Sled Dogs next game is August 5 at 7:00pm vs. BNP Paribas.
