D7 Dogs Bag Wild Turkeys, Win 4-3 In OT

Open Season As Morse Fires Fatal Shot

SKYRINK, June 24, 2006 – The Sled Dogs bounced back from a 4-game losing streak with a stirring OT victory over the Wild Turkeys tonight. Defenseman Chris Morse notched the game-winning goal on a sweet wrist shot from the high slot, which was the culmination of a solid game for the blue-liner.

Doug Gorenstein also made a successful return to the ice after a self-imposed layoff to tend to some “pressing family matters.” Gorenstein scored two goals and in a sign that married life has already changed him, assisted on Morse’s OT goal with a tape to tape break out pass in the 4 on 4 format.

The Dogs, initially distracted by the Turkeys hideous new jerseys, got on the board early as Rich Lee tallied his fifth goal of the season. The game’s momentum shifted back and forth after that with the Sled Dogs applying stretches of extended pressure punctuated with booming slap shots from Morse and fellow defenseman Sandro Pardo. It took Gorenstein’s late goal, however, to send the game into the extra period and set up Morse’s heroics.

“It was bizarro hockey,” recounted Morse. “Usually I’m head-manning the puck to Doug but in overtime he made a beautiful feed right on my blade. All it took was a couple of dekes to break free of that slow-footed Turkey defenseman and there I was alone in the slot.” Asked about his decision to forego his patented slap-shot, Morse replied, “As I said, it was bizarro hockey.”
