Lee Nets Two More As Dogs Move Into Second Place
SKY RINK, NY, May 13, 2006 – The Sled Dogs showcased offensive playmaking and creativity in a game whose final score doesn’t tell the whole story. Constant pressure and offensive chances combined with solid defense were the story for the Dogs tonight as they controlled tempo throughout. Right wing Rich Lee had both Sled Dog goals as the line of Lee, Jen Parvinpour and Jack Whalen continued to gel.
“We seemed to know where our linemates were all night,” said Lee. After beating the Ordinals goalie 5-hole to open the scoring, Lee took a beautiful feed through the defense from left wing Parvinpour and found himself all alone in front of the net. He calmly took 2 steps to his right and fired the puck past a stunned netminder for the Dogs final tally.
“Jen did all the work in the corner on that one,” said Lee, “I was just hoping not to screw it up.” Seeing the offense click all night was a welcome sight for the Sled Dogs who will look to maintain their momentum during a tough stretch in their schedule throughout June.
“It always feels great when your line is running on all cylinders,” added Parvinpour. “But I’m still not sure why Rich ran me over in the neutral zone.”
Defensively, the Dogs played well as a unit and were particularly strong transitioning from defense to offense. “It seemed like we were in the Ordinals zone at least 70% of the game,” noted Captain Steve Chamberlin. “That’s a direct result of the entire team working together. I always like to see a hustling backcheck and that’s what we had tonight.”
Notes: Alternate Katja Patchowsky played strong defense in her Sled Dogs debut…Goalie Christine Overbye was tested on a few odd man rushes but proved up to the task…Whalen continued to dent the iron with several shots that rang off the posts…The Sled Dogs next play May 20 at 7:00pm vs. the Blizzard.
